Writeshops

Some publications can be produced more efficiently and effectively using the “writeshop” approach. A writeshop is a working group established to ensure a particular publication is produced on time, under budget and according to the specified needs of the stakeholders.

Writeshop Synopsis

The content and structure of a writeshop varies according to the needs of the organization and the task at hand, but all writeshops have a similar underlying format:

  1. Everyone with a stake in the publication meets for one or more short, focused planning sessions. The outcomes of the planning sessions are:
    1. an agreed table of contents and style guidelines for the publication
    2. an agreed process for compiling content and composing text
    3. an agreed mechanism for revising and approving the final draft
  2. A plan for publication, distribution and evaluation (including a budget)
  3. Documentation of the writeshop with Action Points

Duration: varies according to the task

Audience: Development agencies and NGOs, government, university and private sector research institutions aiming to produce a funding proposal, report or publication within a limited period of time.
